In memoriam. My close friend and music partner, Tay Holden, was killed in the San Francisco crane accident in November 1989. This song and Play On were written for her and are dedicated to other friends and family who have died.

Before the shadows of the night
were lost inside the day
while shaking off the angry dreams,
some good ones slip away.

Oh these comings and these goings,
they keep me hanging on
to all that I hold dear today.
Tomorrow, they may be gone.

Down the winding road I'd lose my way
on the path where friendship lies,
yet like a flower on a rock,
you'd catch me by surprise.

Now you're gone beyond the mountains,
no tracks left on the snow,
across the borders of your life,
beyond its ebb and flow.

Are you following the spotted fawn
to its home deep in the glade?
Are you swimming upstream
in the wake the salmon made?

Have you found the safest harbor
for your rest upon the shore,
and the painful moments of your life
trouble you no more?

Now for me the dance it still goes on,
though the partners sometimes change
and the music we have always loved
is somehow rearranged.

Now you're waltzing in the shadows
of dreams and memory,
a source of comfort as life
unfolds its mystery

Oh the comings...
